Early Years

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Much of the children’s learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) will be through play. Children are offered a range of activities each with an underlying educational purpose. Research suggests that play is the catalyst for early brain development. Play is also the means by which the children explore a variety of experiences in different situations, including problem solving and working as a team. It is a process which provides children with a way of learning about the world around them. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors in our purpose built facility.

Reception under the British curriculum system, as the gateway to school life:

  • Language development using stories, rhymes, letter recognition, conversation, listening, phonics and whole word recognition;

  • mathematics using shapes, space awareness, counting, weighing, comparing and sequencing;

  • imaginative play using role play, mimicry and facilities for your child to create their own fantasy world;

  • musical play with singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, movement with music, and listening to and enjoying music from around the world;

  • social development with sharing, turn-taking, discipline, social graces, washing hands and brushing teeth;

  • physical play where motor skills are developed through the use of climbing frames, slides, swings, and push-along toys;

  • constructive play with building toys, matching games and sequencing activities;

  • creative play with art & craft, design & technology, sensory and manipulative play, using paints, crayons, chalk, collage and sticking.
